Another brilliantly unique storyline, and another relentless onslaught of hilarity. This time Death gets an apprentice, who basically tags along with Death for a while, having fun and adventure, and then eventually decides it's not for him, and goes back to his normal life.
Terry Pratchett does make Death seem like a viable character, and develops his task and outlook with some intelligence and ingenuity. I sometimes think that if Pratchett ever wrote a book without the hilarity, it would be brilliant hard sci-fi. As it is, it's a good laugh. |
