Strange, this. The book comes highly recommended by such likes as Iain Banks, the author has had several nominations for the Arthur C. Clarke award, and yet I failed to see anything special. To my mind, the book is most notable for the fact that I had forgotten the plot almost as soon as I finished reading it. Maybe I was distracted at the time and didn't give the book the attention it deserved. If some day I feel guilty about marking it down in this way, I'll go back and re-read it. I probably won't let this experience stop me from getting another one in the series, but until then I can only describe it as forgettable, out of sight and out of mind. |
