Title: Guildford HoH/deaf Social Group
‘‘The Meet at the Keep’’

Mark Radford's been at it again...

Our very own Mark has just published another book! Laughing

It's a sequel to Early Memory, called Farrow's Legacy, and the first chapter is available to read on his website here .

Well done Mark...I hope you can get out of the house again now that the book's finished; see you at the next social!

New lip reading classes in Surrey

I met with Lisa Woodward from Surrey County Council who's trying to improve the provision of lip reading classes across Surrey. I know in Guildford we're extremely fortunate to have the Guildford HoH Support Group with lip reading incorporated but other areas are not so well served. I'll put a link to the brochure on the Who We Like section.

Message from Lisa:

"Surrey's Adult and Community Learning is now able to offer friendly Lip Reading courses taught by qualified and highly experienced tutors. At present courses are in Molesey, Chertsey and Sunbury. "

She's currently trying to get teachers available for more areas in Surrey to start new courses soon. You can get in touch with her via the people at the bottom of this page or via the Write To Us page.

New Hearing Aid Study in Guildford

[Update 14-Jul-2013: This study is no longer running.]

There's a new study for people who might want to wear hearing aids. They have to have a moderate hearing loss that is similar in both ears and should be people with no experience with hearing aids. It looks like a good opportunity for newbies to try two different hearing aids and to get extra time with audiologists to check things are working well. Participants also get paid £50 in vouchers.

Footie Mayhem Over - Meet ON

The social is definitely ON this coming Wednesday, 27th June. I've spoken with the landlady, we can have the room as per usual.

Hope to see you there!

Footie Mayhem

If England are playing in the Euro football semi-final on Wed 27th then our social won't run. The pub landlady will want the upstairs room for Joe Public to watch the big loud telly.

That said, as far as my footie-phobic brain can understand, if England get through they'll be playing on the Thursday (not Wednesday). So touch wood we'll have the normal deafie-friendly meet Cool

I'll confirm early next week after speaking with the landlady. Please note that even if the footaball is on upstairs a couple of us will be there anyway!

Updating updates!

Hello everyone,

Just to let you know that the website will be updated more regularly from now on. Since I last wrote, the bard's busted bits have been well and truly fixed.

And... a new website section will appear soon and it will be dedicated to local deafie friendly events. Please feel free to let us know of any upcoming events which might be of interest to others.

Bard's Busted Bits...

Our poor poet broke her right arm so has not been writing.

While we await with baited breath for future instalments, we all wish her well. Smile
